For that 27" iMac experience or better which monitors are people buying?

I was looking at a Samsung S27B970D 27in Widescreen PLS Monitor but its out of stock and may be discontinued.

Is another IPS monitor like Dell U2713H 27in Ultra Sharp IPS LED Monitor the way to go? Or would a 4k screen such as Samsung U28D590D 28in UHD 4K Monitor be the way to go?

I have been looking for a new monitor for quite some time. I think WQHD is the minimum. I have a 1920x1200 display at work and I can't see any adaventage over my 10 year old 17' NEC which I am still using at home. 1920 Pixels horzontal resolution is to small to have two windows (e.g. word processer and browser) side-by-side. With 2560 Pixels this is possible.

I am interestend in that monitor:

It comes closest to the Apple Thunderbolt Display - very stylish and has a glass front. Why is it so expensive in the USA? In Germany you get it for a about 430 Euro. Usually it is the other way round.

As with all cheap monitors: there are posive as well as negative user reports. Quality seems to vary a lot. This seem to be especially true for the Dells - there are very positive and very negativ reports. I suspect that one reason for the low price is (almost) no quailty control at the factory. They just send out everything and most customers accept the junk because they don't know better.

If you want to aviod any trouble the solution is very simple but expensive: get a good NEC or a Eizo. But they are really expensive. Eizo also has a cheep model (still more expemsive than Dell & Co) but this seems have the same quality problems as the really cheep ones.

I still really want the S27B970D. Does anyone know if its still being made? Its a good general purpose screen with good colour right?

What would be the 4k equivalent of this monitor?

Amazon.com has it - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-S27B970D-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B007M4UUF2/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1398904195&sr=1-1&keywords=s27b970d

You might be able to find the Viewsonic instead - see review - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vp2770-led-s27b970d-review,3426.html

Personally, I would prefer a monitor that swivels and has a VESA mount.

S27B970D has come up for pre-order again, so I'll get that. Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

Dell U2713HM UltraSharp 27in IPS LED Monitor is what I ended up getting. The samsung was pushed back again.
