I used to use bootit, but my new machine has no cdrom and I dont have a usb stick of it or well one I can make easily. Are their any good free apps that make a complete copy of a drive including the EFI partitions etc?

you can use carbon copy cloner and then reinstall the boot loader to it after your done. There is a free 30 day trial and then just not buy it.

Easiest free option to clone a working partition is to use the OS X installer itself. If you are familiar with mounting an EFI partition or use an app to do so then you shouldn't have any problems manually copying the EFI contents over afterwards.

Boot into your OS X installer (UniBeast drive) Once you reach the installer open Disk Utility.
Select the drive you want to restore from as the Source.
And your back up (cloned drive) as the Destination.

Once the Restore completes boot into your working drive, mount your EFI partition, save contents to your desktop. Unmount EFi partition and mount your cloned drive EFI partition and copy your existing EFI contents to it from the desktop, test boot. Done.
