Okay, so I got all my components and went ahead and installed my SSD drive (not an easy task) and followed the MLion 5.1b1 Installation, by RehabMan.

On the plus side, I can boot off the MLion drive without a problem. My FireWire ExpressCard (running my Audio Interface) works great. The whole point of this laptop is for Live performance, so I'm very happy about that. After running the ProBook Installer and succesfully booting, I upgraded RAM, and that is working fine.

However, I guess I'm guilty of putting the cart before the horse (especially with the RAM as I may have to remove it… ?) I have several issues. The first that needs to be addressed is the fact that the AC adaper is getting very hot. I can't find anyone here or elsewhere having this problem. I either need a solution or someone to tell me it's normal (which I doubt). I wish I had checked it under Windows, alas.

Other things not working Ethernet, WiFi, Sound, Microphone, Battery % Indicator, and Brightness keys (and other keys like Play, Stop, Volume Up, Down, etc.). And BlueTooth is always on. The checkbox is greyed-out, I can't turn it off. I tried doing it in the BIOS to no avail.

As far as the WiFi is concerned, I don't have the Atheros AR9285, but instead the AR9002UB (WiFi/Bluetooth combo). I can get another card, but I figured there would be no harm in at least trying to make this one work. I had been pointed to a page (on a Chinese site) with the following information:

OS X Lion 10.7.1
IO80211Family.kext::Contents::plugIns::AirportAtheros21.kext::Contents:info.plist
add <string>pci168c,2b</string> below <string>pci168c,2a</string>
save
repair permission
restart
OS X 10.7.2 IO80211Family.kext supports AR9002 without modification

… it does say it's for Lion and not MLion, and the only kext I found was AirPortAtheros40 (not 21). Anyway, I'm not yet sure what to do with this information and I am currently reading up on editing kext files.

Below are the options I selected with the ProBook installer. You will notice that under 'DSDTs for Standard Screens', I chose nothing. My BIOS is 23 and, as that wasn't offered as I selection, I didn't know what to choose. Should I downgrade to 20?

I've read through every post in this thread, and have learned a lot, but I am still having some difficulty in putting all the pieces together. Some of the things I read made no sense at all to me; others seemed irrelevant (but I read them anyway). I am reading through it all again, trying to figure out how best to proceed. Eventually, this will all make sense to me. Thank you for your help and patience in the interim.

You'll need the DSDT to make everything work. Use the dsdt for the f.20 BIOS.

Wow... what a difference a simple little thing like that made. ALL of my problems (except for the Bluetooth issue) went away. Thank you!
