Hey everyone,
So I am looking for a USB sound box that supports 5.1 surround sound in Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and Windows 7. I am using analogue input jacks (black, green, orange) and so far I have had no luck with this one:
http://sabrent.com/v2/8-channel-3d-usb- ... al-output/

Works fine in Windows 7 but when I boot into Snow Leopard only 2 speakers work with it. This could be due to driver support, Sabrent doesn't carry any OSX drivers for this model on their website..

Anybody know of a working USB sound box for a dual boot hackintosh / PC system? Looking for 5.1 surround.

Thanks!

All I can suggest is stay away from this one:

The site says it's native MAC supported and I couldn't get it to stop popping and dropping audio. I'll admit the thing just plugged in and there was 5.1 analog no problem - for about 20 seconds with pops, clicks and snaps..

You may want to consider finding yourself an Audigy or Audigy2 PCI card and using one of those. I had one lying around saw some drivers on "insanely mac" and now I have 5.1 working fully and better sounding than on board.

Good luck.

I've been using this for some time with analog 5.1 speakers ...

Cheap USB soundbox. It's 7.1, but works as 5.1 as well.

With SL, no problem using VLC for movies. But with Lion, the center-sound goes to the left rear. But there's a workaround - install Perian, then use Movist instead of VLC. afaik, Movist can only do stereo w/o Perian.

Hmmm, OK thanks - good to know.
I plan on upgrading to a Sandy Bridge board in the near future anyways, so if that doesn't work I'll have to give this a go.
:)
