USB 3.0 ports are working, but they seem to be 2.0

I followed some of the guides to get my usb 3.0 ports working and i thought i got them working, until i used my external hard drive for something i do on a regular basis and it was much slower then it should be. I only seem to be able to find threads and stuff about people who have no usb usage available at all from there 3.0 slots. Is there something I'm missing?

used unibeast to install capitan, let me know if any more info is needed.

Following a bunch of forum posts, and doing some trial and error i was able to get my usb 3.0 working with kext patch AppleUSBXHCIPCI from other posts. Now the problem i appear to be having is the devices are recognized as usb 3.0 when i plug them in, but if i restart, when i reboot they are in 2.0 until i replug them in. Is this ringing a bell for anyone?

I have an asus z97 e motherboard, running the latest version of capitan. If any more info is needed let me know . I am SUPER new to this whole hackintosh thing so bare with me!.
