Upgrade processor from i5 2500k to 2700k or 3770k on same motherboard

Hi,

I am so unsure right now whether I should upgrade my CPU from an Intel i5 2500k to either a i7 2700k (or i7 3770k to get the maximal performance concerning the CPU power).
Does anyone know whether a processor upgrade without changing the motherboard will work without any hassle?
I am running El Capitan right now and I have an ASUS p8h67-m pro (Sandybridge) and the board will stay the same (everything else as well). So I just would like to get the most out of that combination.

It would be great if I do not have to reinstall everything. Any help will help me!!!

If your motherboard/firmware supports the processor, it shouldn't be a problem. Research it. With processors that old, I'd get the fastest, newest i7 supported.

Both processors will fit the board. So the 3770k would be the fastest CPU available.
I was just unsure whether I have to reinstall everything. But if I understand you correctly, that should not be the case?!

No, it should not be the case. The difference between different sandy bridge (or even ivy bridge) processors isn't much as far as the OS is concerned.
