Updating totally necessary?

I am on 10.9.1, had my hacktintosh set up for a few months and it works great, everything I want. I see most issues in the updater and alot of them are for particular models, or machines from a certain year etc. is it really necessary to update? do I have a big security risk if I don't?

I have a security update and a couple of software updates. Am I ok to just install the security updates or will it cause problems?

everything is just running so well at the moment!

For me, the main reason I would do the upgrade would be for security updates and app fixes. There are a lot of great guides and posts on this site so be sure to read everything you can find before pulling the trigger. ...and also I would highly recommend that you make a clone of your hard drive just in case.

Fortunately, 10.9.2 was already out and debugged when a build my new rig a few days ago but when 10.9.3 comes out, I will be looking to apply the update if it is safe to do so without massive issues.
