Unequal amount of memory installed.Causing bad shut downs?

I just build my Hackintosh with specs listed below and have had no issues. All of sudden when I go to shut down, it freezes at the gray screen and tells me to "hold down the power button to shut down...."I have 4GB of PNY ram installed in slots 1 and 2 and Have 2gb sticks of Samsung memory installed in slots 3 and 4. Would this cause the shut down issues?

GIGABYTE Z68MA-D2H-B3 INTEL LGA 1155 Z68
Samsung 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-10666 1333 MHz DDR3

Dunno, but typically with ga boards it should be paired in slots 1-3 and 2-4
