If you were intimidated by the information in the sticky, then this (hackintoshing) is probably not for you. Seriously though, the only popular laptop (that I know anyway) with good compatibility is the HP Probook series. With that said, I am certain that there are other laptops that will work just as fine as the Probook, one such laptop is my own Inspiron n5050. It's not as straightforward as the Probook installation, but with research and experimentation, I was able t get it working just fine. Point being, you have to research compatible laptops and purchase a similar one, or look for hardware that is confirmed working then get a laptop with the aforementioned hardware.
Also, contrary to the sticky, Apple updates have never caused my hackintosh to stop functioning and I've done this too many times now.
