No "Problem Reporting" files attached.

Comments:
- you are likely applying it to the wrong file (it appears to be designed to apply to one of the SSDTs, not DSDT)
- the patch is designed for ACPIBacklight.kext
- this thread is in the Sierra forum
- ACPIBacklight.kext does not work on Sierra 10.12.4 and later

If you have Nvidia only (again, no "Problem Reporting" files attached... confirmation of profile impossible), you should look for a backlight solution that uses native kexts, not ACPIBacklight.kext.

First how can I find out which SSDT file, second what is a problem reporting file

Like this?

No ioreg attached.
Also, you forgot to press F2 (as a result, no misc/preboot.log)
And you forgot to press F4 (as a result, ACPI/origin files are old)

How do I use that app and what do I open with it

The app is attached to the post linked by the FAQ.
You run it by double clicking just as any other app.
The Save functions are on the File menu.

When I open it the app icon pops up but no window pops up

Use images to show what you're doing.
You should be double clicking on IORegistryExplorer.app.
