Hello all,

I set up a hackintosh on a single SSD with Snow leopard and windows 7 on equal 60 GB partitions. I have big regular HDs of each flavor in the computer as well for storage. I use the computer mostly for work so the Win7 HD gets much more use, unfortunately. Have not upgraded the Snow Leopard but use it occasionally.

The problem has been lately that Win7 is a space hog. With windows update files, programs I need for work, the SSD is often running out of room.

I was thinking about buying a 240 or 250 GB SSD and transferring my OSes to it. I was thinking of again partitioning this drive, transferring my Win7 C drive to it, and then doing a fresh install of OS Mavericks.

Any advice as to programs for the transfer which would make things smooth? Never transferred a Windows OS drive before.

Thanks
Ben

I would suggest something like http://www.amazon.com/120GB-Notebook-Installation-sata_6_0_gb-MZ-7TD120KW/dp/B009NHAFBA/
Most brands can be had with either the bare drive or a complete drive migration kit. I know OCZ also makes one, Crucial makes one, you can use a http://www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Notebook-Upgrade-Connection-ASW-USB-25/dp/B002EUCU3O/ or you can buy the Acronis software and a SATA drive to USB adapter for a homemade one.
This gives you the ability to clone your Win7 install to a larger SSD and includes everything you need.
So, move your Windows to a new SSD and leave OS X on the old one. Just delete the Win7 partition in Disk utility and expand the OS X partition to take up the remaining disc space.
You will really be much better off with separate drives for your OS's.

Thanks for the advice, I hadn't thought of that. I was going to use the old SSD for something else, but maybe I will go this route.
