Im trying to figure out why the transfer speeds between my computer and Synology DS1817+ has been cut in half since installing both Sierra or High Sierra.

I was previously running Windows 10 and the speeds i was getting was 110-135Mb/s. Transferring 1GB took about 10 seconds. But now that im on macOS high sierra, the fastest itll go is 55-60MB/s.

In System Information, my Gigabyte Z270X-UD5 Motherboard shows 2 different ethernet cards with a different Kext being used on each:

RealTek RTL8168E/8111E - RealTekRTL8111.kext
Intel 1219V2 - intelmausiEthernet.kext

Physically, I have one ethernet line for internet, and the other is directly to the NAS.

Have you tried both SMB and AFP?

Did you try AFP? I use AFP with my Synology clone and i get over 110MB/s over 1GbE and up to 800MB/s reads and 300MB/s writes using AFP over 10GbE.

Try this:

  1. From Finder, press Command+K.
  2. In the "Server Address:" field, enter "afp://" followed by the IP address of your NAS. (example, "afp://10.0.0.2")
  3. Also, make sure that AFP is enabled on your NAS.
