On the Elitebook 8470p there's 4 clickable buttons around the trackpad. The two on the bottom work as expected (left click, right click); however there's two on the top of the trackpad also, directly underneath the spacebar. The problem is these buttons are extremely easy to click by mistake, while trying to hit space; after a few clicks the system will lock up and reboot.
I can click it once or twice to pull the following out of the system log:

Code:

That's when clicking the top-LEFT button, its very easy to create a crash this way.
The top-RIGHT button appears to simulate a right click, and then gives above messages also

Is there an easy way to remap the offending button(s)?

The pointing stick and the related buttons are not supported by VoodooPS2Controller.kext. The data doesn't conform to the spec published by Synaptics.

Some have simply disconnected it.

People disconnect the entire trackpad? I'm not sure I follow. I dont mean the circular knob looking thingy in the middle of the keyboard (**** poor design and a waste of space TBH), but the trackpad itself having 4 buttons

Ohh I see makes much more sense now lol, I'll check it out hopefully its easily accessible; either way that damn useless thing needs to go for sure

Thanks!

How much do I need to open up to disconnect this thing? I just had another reboot, this is making my laptop unstable & unusable... Can't find anything relevant on google/youtube, other than silly software suggestions.

K to make this easier for anyone else who stumbles here.

After loosening the 3 screws, and pushing the keyboard out (be VERY careful, there is a ribbon underneath it), there is another mini ribbon that connects straight to that damn stick. I used scissors to cut it since never in a MILLION years will I ever want to use that crap. Push the keyboard back down, tighten the screws and voila :D

No more messages in terminal about bad data from the touchpad, the 2 useless buttons above the trackpad and the stick are totally cured. :D
