Does the OS matter to the build? I'm just asking because I still have my Snow Leopard instal disk and was hoping to save money by not having to buy the new OS.

Yes, because SL is not supporting Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Hi there,

I've installed Lion on the same Motherboard with an 3770K and everything is working except for the onboard audio. First I installed the 888enabler from Multibeast 4.6.1 and after that I installed the interim AppelHDA out of the thread which is linked in the HowTo of installing Lion on an Ivy Bridge based system.

Was that right or have I missunderstood something?

Comments
This build was originally an ASUS P8P67-Pro with i5-2500K. The board/cpu are removed, but all else was compatible. I got the Z77-DS3H before the 3770, so I'd originally used it to test with the Sandy Bridge i5-2500K.

I'm using it as a test rig, so I'm swapping graphics cards out, testing onboard, hence the no graphics card. For a list of compatible cards and recommendations, check here: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/search/label/CustoMac

Important Note on Ivy Bridge Support:
Ivy Bridge CPUs and chipsets are not currently supported natively by Mac OS X. We can't recommend Ivy Bridge systems yet, as there is no official support. Hence, please don't view this as buying advice.

Even with BridgeHelper 3.0, it's more work to install, and much easier when you have 2 systems. I got the 3770 in the mail today and stuck it in. Problems arising from incorrect kernel / powermanagement kext in 10.7.3. These issues will be alleviated once Ivy Bridge support is native in OS X. It's definitely coming- it's a matter of when at this point.

Hi everybody,

I guess this will be my introductory post. I've been doing a lot of reading, so I'm just trying to clarify. Don't have anything hackintoshed yet, except for a couple of old Netbooks we still use with Snow Leopard.

So, my question is, if I used this MoBo along with my processor in my current rig, fully supported i5 2500K, would everything work?

I believe so, as it looks like the only difficulties presented in your post seem to stem from the unsupported Ivy Bridge, but I'd like to make sure. I currently have an Asus P8P67 (regular Vanilla version) installed in my rig, but after reading about the locked BIOS'es, then audio issues and otherwise that patched updated BIOS'es are causing, internal bluetooth not playing well with OS X, etc. I'd be willing to shell out an extra $105 if it meant a lot less headaches for my build.

Besides the MoBo described here, it would be the i5-2500K, Corsair XMS 3 (4X4GB), XFX Radeon 6850, and an Asus DVD drive that I'm planning on replacing with an Optiarc based on my reading with OSX compatibility.

Everybody on this board seems to be really helpful and knowledgeable so hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction.

Hi there,

I used the following guide to get the audio working for the ALC887 - http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=59061.

Summary, make sure you do not have the DSDT for the board on the desktop AND select BOTH of these in MultiBeast:

1. Drivers & Bootloaders/Kexts & Enablers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx//Patched
AppleHDA/ALC887_v100302
2. Drivers & Bootloaders/Kexts & Enablers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx/Non-DSDT
HDAEnabler/ALC887

This is the Installation Process from the link:

Installation
Available in MultiBeast_v4.6 and newer
1. Select: Drivers & Bootloaders/Kexts & Enablers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx//Patched AppleHDA/ALC887_v100202 or ALC887_v100302
If no DSDT or no DSDT/HDEF, select both 1 and 2. If DSDT installed, skip Step 2
2. Select: Drivers & Bootloaders/Kexts & Enablers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx/Non-DSDT HDAEnabler/ALC887
3. Always select: System Utilities

Installation Notes
1. Backup S/L/E/AppleHDA.kext before System Update
2. If a Patched AppleHDA selected, do not Select ALC8xxHDA or AppleHDA Rollback.
3. if a DSDT is installed, do not install an enabler

 Hi everybody,

for the first installation is possible to use the integrated graphic board of this Mainboard ? And in second time add a new graphic board ?

Thanks
Francesco.

I used the HD 4000 to install and use it for now until I get more money for a GFX card - used the HDMI port.

I use the integrated HD4000 with my GA-Z77X-UD5H. I had to add a key/string pair in my plist file to get it to do 1920x1200, but other than that its already working great. I can even view MP4s! I cannot do anything that specifically requires OpenGL, however, but the system doesn't crash or anything, I just either get nothing, or a polite error dialog from the application that is requesting it.

There is strong probability that HD4000 will be fully supported with Mountain Lion and/or 10.7.5, which is only 7 days away at this point! :headbang: (I don't know how long it will take for the mods to prepare the tools and procedures for us to use ML though).

Okay, thank you. I will try it later this evening! :thumb up:

EDIT: Yeah it worked. :headbang: But then I noticed something I can't really believe yet. Gigabyte deleted the option to alter the VCore manually in the BIOS for many boards. o_O So you are not able to overclock your system although you own a K CPU and a Z77 Chipset. I'm really pissed of because usually every mainboard has this option, even my ASUS P8H61-LE. So now I will buy a Z77X-D3H and use my ASUS Xonar USB for Audio and HDMI via my HD6870
