I really reallly want an SSD boot drive with all my music, movies, and photos on a 1TB HDD. But I also want a separate HDD for time machine. Can I have the time machine back up the SSD and HDD as one drive or do I need to partition my 1 TB time machine into two time machines...one for the SSD and one for the HDD?

The logistics are spinning through my head and I'm confusing myself. Either was is fine, I just want to know an answer before I mess something up when I try myself. Thanks!

No need to partition your backup drive for this. Time machine does a file-level backup, not a clone image.

Time machine will backup both volumes (drives), and put them in separate hierarchies under its Backups.backupdb folder.

perfect! Thank you, and by the way your guide on moving the users folder is what I'm going to use!
