Time Machine Drive Causes Clover Stall

I have an external USB 3 HD that has multiple machine's time machine backups on it (I am running the OS X Server app and doing network backups).

When I have this drive plugged into my machine, clover hangs before ever getting to the drive selection screen. No matter how long I leave it up for, it just shows a black screen (monitor still on). When I unplug my drive and reboot, no problem - goes right to the drive selection and away I go.

My machine is fully functional besides this and it is driving me nuts! Does anyone have any suggestion what might be the issue?

If it helps, I am on a Z77n-Wifi with two SSD drives and one HD on SATA, dual booting windows 10 and OS X.
