Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

I no longer have Gigabyte. I use Asus.
I see -- in that case we cannot use SSDT-MAPLE-RIDGE-RP05-V2.aml. Instead we need to use the attached SSDT (also posted earlier in this thread).

The file OriginalFirmware-AsusUSB4.bin is not Thunderbolt firmware. There should be another 8-pin flash ROM somewhere on the Asus TB4 add-in-card that is from either MXIC (Macronix) or Winbond.

@ori69,

Can you post a screenshot of IOReg RP05 section, but clear the "search" field.

@ori69,

Please clear the search field by clicking the little "x" then post screenshot. We want to see what is under RP05, like this:

I connected the OWC pocket with Thunderbolt 3 and only the lower port works.
There is no NHI0 in the device tree, which is very odd. It should be under DSB0 as shown below. Some questions:
  • Is the correct Thunderbolt SSDT enabled?
  • Is the old Thunderbolt SSDT disabled?
  • Please try cold boot (shutdown, flip power switch on PSU to OFF for 15 seconds, then power up)
  • Is the Thunderbolt add-in-card connected to motherboard's Thunderbolt header?

This is not a Thunderbolt controller, but an ASUS USB 4 on ASM4242.

The Thunderbolt add-in-card connected to motherboard's Thunderbolt header 2 cables

Ah, shame on me for blindly assuming this was a Thunderbolt card. :)

This may become a Thunderbolt 4 card if ASMedia goes all the way to obtain Thunderbolt certification for their 4242 controller; for now, it is a USB4 card with some unofficial Thunderbolt capabilities. And how much of that can be supported by macOS is a big question mark.

Maybe don't connect the ASM4242 to the Thunderbolt 4 topic and start a new one?
