Hello everyone,

after the disappointing WWDC with regards to iMacs and MacPros I am now looking into Hackintoshs and found this great website.

I am looking for a stable system running Lion and Mountain Lion sometime soon in parallel to Windows 7 on a separate SSD. I would like to have a good graphics performance as I would like to play Guild Wars 2 when it will be released on the Win7 system.

I looked at the Ivy setups floating around, but I am unsure about their stability at this point. I am also not sure whether they would be that much of a difference performance-wise to me, so I am looking at a Sandy Bridge setup like this:

XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB Grafikkarte (PCI-e, 1GB GDDR5 Speicher, Dual-DVI, HDMI, Dual DP, 1 GPU)
http://www.amazon.de/XFX-Radeon-Grafikk ... 119&sr=8-3

(I'd rather have a 2GB graphics card but cannot find anything compatible and available in Germany - but I guess 1 GB should be enough for games on 1920x1200?).

GIGABYTE Z68X-UD3H-B3 Socket1155
http://www.amazon.de/GIGABYTE-Z68X-UD3H ... 765&sr=8-2

Intel Core i7-2700K Quad-Core Prozessor Boxed (3,5GHz, Sockel 1155, 8MB Cache, 95 Watt)
http://www.amazon.de/Intel-i7-2700K-Qua ... 840&sr=1-5

Corsair Vengeance Arbeitsspeicher (PC1600, 16GB, CL9) DDR3-RAM Kit
http://www.amazon.de/Corsair-Vengeance- ... =8-2-fkmr0

Corsair AX Serie Netzteil 650W (80 PLUS GOLD >90% efficiency)
http://www.amazon.de/Corsair-AX-Serie-N ... 319&sr=8-2

2x Crucial CT128M4SSD2 128GB interne SSD-Festplatte (6,4cm (2,5 Zoll), SATA)
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B004W2J ... =computers
(1 for Win7, 1 for Mac OS X)

Not sure about the case yet. I have read that the graphics card is very big and needs a big tower to stay silent - any recommendations?

How likely is it that a system like this will be upgradable to Mountain Lion?

Any thoughts on this setup? I would really like to build a hassle-free system, that's stable, fast and quiet.
Thanks!

The build is perfect.

Case suggestion: Corsair Carbide 400R or 500R or Obsidian 550/650.

ML update: upgradeable like the other SB Macs.

I would get 2x8GB memory because it is better for future upgrade.

Ok, thanks for your comments.

@Mate94: I can only find this one at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.de/Corsair-Obsidian-midi-Tower-PC-Gehäuse-schwarz/dp/tech-data/B006L6ZSWC/ref=de_a_smtd
Is that the one you mean? I will check some other resellers for the other ones.

@SMHI: which would you recommend for this board? I am not sure about the RAM specs I need, I just took some I found used in other setups. What is the difference between CL9 as opposed to CL10 on these CORSAIR RAMs:

Last time I bought RAM was years ago and I looked at getting CL2 preferred over CL3... Is that still true, the lower the number the better the speed?

Another question: I want to add an Apple Wireless Keyboard and the Apple Trackpad. Do I need to look for some special USB Bluetooth Adapter or does any work?

This is what im using to connect my wireless apple bluetooth keyboard.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E9 ... B001E96JBK

it is working great for me and it is natively supported.

I am still a little unsure whether I should go with Sandy or give Ivy a go.

What would be my actual advantages when I would go for

Gigabyte-GA-Z77X-D3H
http://www.amazon.de/Gigabyte-GA-Z77X-D ... 622&sr=8-3

and

Intel-i7-3770K 3,5GHz
http://www.amazon.de/Intel-i7-3770K-Pro ... 948&sr=1-2

The price difference is only about 30€ (approx. 40-50$). Looking at the user reports, this seems to be just as stable as the Sandy setup, especially now with the new Bridgehelper 5.0.

Do I get more for my money? Any thoughts?

Is the 6870 graphics the best you can get at the moment for Hackintoshs? I think 6970 or even 7xxx are not supported at all, right?

Noone?

Looks like I am gonna stick with the Z68, as informazion seems a little vague. I found posts from people reporting problems with Z77 and that bothers me a little...
