I can't for the life of me figure this out... trying to install OSX 10.6 on a Gateway FX510S, with Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Lavacot motherboard (Intel 975x chipset). I can boot from the iBoot disk (both the new iBoot and the Legacy), but when I replace the disk with my Snow Leopard Retail DVD and boot it from the menu, I get the following kernel panic:

Please contact someone with a photo of the
information printed below, along with a description of your
system configuration and what you were doing at the time that
the kernel panic occurred. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Wow. That was a marathon of typing. Took like 20 minutes. But I think it was worth doing, so that people can quote certain parts of it... eh maybe it was not worth it at all. Anyway, any ideas on this? I'm getting a little ticked at my machine... haha. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: RESOLVED!!!!! After about 2 hours of random fiddling and some decidedly more random Google searches, I finally succeeded in booting into the OSX Installer. Installing now, 27 minutes to go. What ended up being the problem was the IOATAFamily kext, which I deleted and now everything works like a charm. Will post back once everything finishes....

And we are good. Thanks to.... well no one really replied. Thanks anyway haha. If I hadn't made these useless forum posts then I would have never figured this whole thing out actually... so. If a moderator would like to delete this string: Feel free. It's all good.

i had the same problem

How can i fix the Kexts?? I admit I am a total NEWBIE

I am trying on a lenovo x200s

The reason nobody replied before may be because nobody here knew how to deal with your problem. It is nice to hear that your problem has been resolved and I believe it will benefit others if you elaborate on how you solve this problem.

Agreed!!

Thanks Bond...James Bond. I really need help. I have tried legacy iBoot and still nothing has helped. From the research I did I gather it is a result of the Kexts. I dunno what I am doing. Please help me

thanks tons in advance

Mark
