If you ever get the money, a new case would be nice. A decent one can be bought for ~$80. Depending on your hardware, you might need a new power supply as well (to fit in a new case).

Not a problem. As with all software-based temp readers, take them with a grain of salt. The best testing method is a physical temperature sensor.
