Problem solved! After more testing I came to the conclusion that it really had to be something with my OS X (network) configuration. So I went through all the network drivers and settings. I checked if I had the latest version of hnak's AppleIntelE1000e driver for my Intel NIC. I had version 2.0.0. Multibeast 5.2.1 contains version 2.1.7, so I updated the driver with Multibeast, rebooted and tried TeamViewer again. And it worked. No more delay, the remote screen appears immediately.
