I'm on 10.8.4. But I think I've had this problem since Lion or Snow Leopard. Since then, I've changed my motherboard, cpu, graphics card and switched to an SSD but nothing has changed.

I click restart, all programs close up nicely in like 5-10 seconds. Then all my displays go white and the spinning circle shows up. After that, it's at least 30 seconds before it actually restarts, which takes much more than actual cold start of the OS (I get to desktop around 20 seconds after I power the PC).

My current specs:

GA-Z77X-UD5H mobo,
i5-3560k cpu,
GTX670 gfx,
8 gigs of ram,
Crucial 128gb ssd.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

PS. Forgot to add, I never check the "reopen windows at login" option.

There are a number of things it could be. There might be some confusion in BIOS as to what your primary drive is.

I had similar results as you and found out the cause was that I was foolish enough to make my optical drive my primary. It worked much faster when I selected my SSD.
