Dear forum members,

as you can see from my signature/profile, I have the most "conservative" setup (GA-P55M-UD2, 8400GS etc.) and strictly followed the "iBoot + MultiBeast" method as described here:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ ... -x-on.html

the only additional kexts installed from multibeast are NVenabler, Realtec RTL8169, HDAEnabler and LegacyHDA for ALC888b

however, I have a strange problem: when I boot up my beloved hackintosh, booting takes forever (3min), the desktop shows up with weird graphic errors, the USB mouse does not react anymore and I have to reset the system.

the second time, the system boots without any glitches, and everything is fine.

this behaviour is totally reproducible, I tried it many times.
also, it happens both with the 10.6.3 and the 10.6.4 update, no difference.

eagerly waiting for your suggestions,

geb

Hi,

I have the exact same issue with my second hackintosh build.
I originally thought it was an issue related to my i3 however when entering -v mode I can see that the USB is failing to initialize (stalling). As you, I need to press reset for the system to load as normal.
I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse via a small usb dongle. However when I did the initial install of the system I used USB mouse and keyboard - the issue did not occur at this time.
I have noticed that when the system is off the bluetooth dongle still blinks - perhaps there is a way around in by disabling the bios setting USB legacy? I've not tried this yet, I am too lazy to plug a USB keyboard into the system to enter the bios to make the changes.

Do you use a bluetooth dongle also?

If you installed the official Realtek driver v2.0.5 this could explain the issue.

Try my RealtekRTL81xx instead: http://bit.ly/RTL81xx

Lnx2Mac thanks for the assist. It fixed my stalling problems however my bluetooth stopped functioning in the original USB port but hey that only took 2 secs to rectify.
Awesome job, thanks for helping us out!

But you mean that my driver disabled one of your USB ports ?
Could you recheck this ? That doesn't make sense to me.

I have a similar problem - in that my OSX seems to load every kext in SLE (booting with -v) and then freezes. Until I power off and power on again.

Download the utility Maintenance from here, http://www.titanium.free.fr/. Run it with all Maintenance and Cleaning Options checked.

It says that my start up disk needs to be repaired and to use the SL Install DVD then Disk Utils and Repair.

Shall I just run the software with all Maintenance and Cleaning Options checked first - I'm guessing that repairing my HD via SL might undo some of the Hack install files?

NO, what Maintenance is telling you is that the file system is corrupted and needs to be fixed.

So boot using iBoot and your Retail SL DVD and repair the disk using disk utilities. Then boot from hard drive and run Maintenance with all of those options.

Thanks for the info - I ran iBoot then selected Retail DVD - then I got another KP when it was trying to load OSX.

I then powered off - powered on and tried again and I got into the Retail DVD - Disk Utility - Repair Risk. A few things came up red and they got fixed. Then rebooted and run Maintenance and restarted again.

I'll let you know if this error keeps on coming back but I was a bit worried by the fact that I got KP when loading the Retail DVD. Would that point to it being a hardware thing? Should I go run some Prime95 and other H/W loading programs to check they are all running OK? Any other ideas what it could be?

I will drop a message back here if I get the KP on 1st boot again.

Thanks as ever MacMan!
