I'm doing my first build after 8 years. My main goal is hackintosh support, but I would also like it to be gaming capable (newer AAA titles) on 4K display. I wonder if I can expect R9 390 to work at all or should I just go with something like 980ti? Obviously the latter would double my gpu cost, but I would consider that over having an incompatible card.
The rest of build is skylake based (6700k, asus z170-a, ...).

Read about all the Radeon cards' compatibility here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/171291-radeon-compatibility-guide-ati-amd-graphics-cards.html

If 4K gaming is important to you I'd go with Nvidia.
