Hi All

I am building a Hackintosh very soon and have a list of components as listed below. I want the most stable build I can as this will be a editing computer for my business. I know Hackintosh isn't recommended for business use, but I thought I'd give it a try just to see for myself.

Nearly all these components are what is recommend on the TonyMac buyers guide, but what I would like to know is if there are any recommendation you guys would like to make before i purchase them? I'd like stability and speed....

The list....

It all looks good to me. Nice build. Wondering why you are not using M.2 SSD slot since it is available?

Unfortunately the graphics cards are the only thing I have bought so far. I saw two identical cards for sale on Amazon and purchased them quickly before they disapeared. So for now at least, I have to use these cards. Everything else though is open. I have already decided on changing a SATA hard drive for 1 M2 hard drive, unless there is a reason not to?

So question, should i run Windows on the M2 HDD, or the Mac OS? Or perhaps partition it and run both OS on this faster HDD?

Stick with the 280X cards, these should work out the box (assuming you go clover) with no issues.

These are good cards, two of them will work well with FCPX. I use a slightly different Sapphire 280X Vapor cards, but these should work fine.

You're going to need a lot more disk space for FCP X work if that is your intended usage. I'd budget for a 2-3TB hard disk as well.

I think your PSU is a little underpowered and would go for an 850W especially as you have 2 x 280X cards.

The water cooling is a bit pointless, buy a decent CPU fan from Nomura and its essentially silent even under load AND there's less things to go wrong. Mine is utterly silent under heavy load.

Your case will take long graphics cards which is good.

Have you checked, checked and checked again that the memory you want is specifically and explicitly listed for that specific and explicit motherboard? You need to check every letter and digit of the SKU. Do not assume anything. If its not listed for that motherboard go get something else that is. Do not economise here.

The rest looks OK.

Rob,

I just want to say thank you.
Read many of your posts and was able to prevent potential mistakes.. such as video cards and getting compatible memory. (Ended up switching to Vapor X 280 and getting the correct memories according to the motherboard (designare) list

Parts haven't all arrived yet but looking forward to my first hackintosh FCPX machine!

Really good advise, many thanks for this. :)

Components all ordered except monitor as I need to save for that. I changed SSD for a M.2 drive and upped the Power unit to 850W.

Thanks for your help.

I read your proposed card wrong, it is the ones that are recommended.
