Hi, this sounds like a nice forum for a newbie :)
I have never built a hacintosh but am very confident with Mac and PC hardware for many years. I can do with a i7 iMac 27" 2014 so I want to build something that can do at least a good job as a Core i7 (I7-4790K) with 2GB Radeon R9 M290X graphics card. This iMac does a good enough job but I don't have or can afford one! I already have a 27" monitor (not expensive but may change later to a 4k)

The heaviest work i will be doing is editing Final Cut Pro videos (not more than 30 min. sections)

Some questions:
- Do I need a SSD or is a 7200rpm HD good enough
- Can I use a newer gen. i5 CPU that will match this i7 CPU?
- How important is the graphics card?
- Do I need 16GB RAM or is 8GB "good enough" for the work I do.

I looked at this package. I just did not like the cabinet. I want a small cabinet like Bitfenix or Fractal Design Node (34cm height)
I know the size and looks are important since I have Macs that look nice on my desktop :)
Is the graphics card here a bit overkill? What is most important? CPU, RAM, HD?

Svive Luna X350 W Midi Tower
Corsair ML120 PRO, 120mm Fan
Corsair VS550, 550W PSU
Intel Core i5-7400
MSI LGA1151 B250M BAZOOKA
Crucial DDR4 2400MHz 8GB KIT
MSI GeForce GTX1060 3GB AERO ITX OC
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3,5 HDD

The above setup was a "weekend offer" for $850 (6699,- in Norway) Any suggestions or links to nice builds are welcome.

You definitely want an SSD and 16GB of ram for video work. The 1060 graphics card is not the best choice for your situation. Even an RX560 would be better for Final cut editing. That is the most important component for video work.

Thanks. So I will look for a RX560 graphics card. Does it matter what make it is? I see this one, will it work:

Sapphire Radeon RX 560 Pulse (11267-18) HDMI DP 4GB ($170)

Also I wondered if you would prefer any of these i7, prices up now used. What is most bang for buck and what will work with least work:

i7-4820k 3.70GHz LGA 2011 (best deal $130)
i7 870 2.93 GHz ($50)
i7 4930k 6 core 12 threads lga2011 x79 ($190)
i7-6700k ($390)

Thanks,

Yes the Sapphire brand cards are a good choice for AMD graphics. If you have a B250M you can't use any of those CPU choices except for the 6700K. A Kaby Lake CPU would be even better. 7700 or 7700K should cost less than 390 USD.

Thanks TRS96. I don't have a motherboard since I am not buying the package I listed (after your graphics advice). Is the i7 4930k 6 core a good deal then? I read others had luck with it and that it is fast. And do you have any suggestion for a mother board that fits in a smal cabinet and can get me wifi and thunderbolt (even with extra cards)?

I just want to focus on and use money on RAM (16 or 32 GB?), SSD, and the Saphire RX 560 I wrote.

Thanks so much for your time on a newbie. I really am grateful!

Yes, the 4930K is a good deal at that price. Find a Golden or User Build that is well written and complete and then buy the same motherboard that they used with a 4930K. Sometimes those older X79 boards are hard to find so you might have to buy used.

Good advice and thanks a lot!
