Comments

Why I decided to build this system? I wanted to have a decent machine for my work and also for playing games so I can get rid of my old MacBook Pro.

Why I picked the components? I wanted to choose more modern components to make it close to iMac Pro but budget mattered. LOL! So, I just hope that in the near future I can add them.

Installation Notes

Most of hackintosh install process is in 4 steps.
  1. Prepare the USB installer stick;
  2. BIOS settings: set the BIOS correctly;
  3. Install macOS;
  4. Post installation, fix if something goes wrong or doesn't work.
1. We will skip first one as the tonymacx86 installation guide describes preparing the USB installer stick.

2. BIOS SETTINGS
Most of Gigabyte Z370 motherboards have the same BIOS settings.
  1. Save & ExitLoad Optimized Defaults
  2. BIOS → Fast Boot : Disabled
  3. BIOS → LAN PXE Boot Option ROM : Disabled
  4. BIOS → Storage Boot Option Control : UEFI
  5. Peripherals → Trusted Computing → Security Device Support : Disable
  6. Peripherals → Network Stack Configuration → Network Stack : Disabled
  7. Peripherals → USB Configuration → Legacy USB Support : Auto
  8. Peripherals → USB Configuration → XHCI Hand-off : Enabled (Extremely important)
  9. Chipset → Vt-d : Disabled
  10. Chipset → Wake on LAN Enable : Disabled
  11. Chipset → IOAPIC 24-119 Entries : Enabled
4. Post Installation

I had problems.

No Sound
I ran Clover Configurator selecting kext installer and installed AppleALC.

No WiFi
I didn't know hackintosh doesn't support onboard WiFi, but I'm OK with LAN.

Green(/Pink) Screen
I again ran Clover Configurator, kext installer then installed WhateverGreen.

So the kexts I needed to fix were:
FakeSMC
WhateverGreen + Lilu
AppleALC

The system recognized Ethernet. So, there's no needed to install a driver/kext for Ethernet/Internet.

Final Thoughts

I thought I could upgrade the CPU in near future.

The major problem with Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5 is:

- the current BIOS version on motherboard is F7; yes, it works well;
but, if you think of upgrading CPU to i5/i7/i9-9XXXk, you gotta upgrade the BIOS to F10 or F12c; it depends on what CPU you have;

- the CPU support list <-- click if you are interested.

So, I upgraded BIOS to F12c (latest version). I just wanted to make it sure it works. Boom! Computer turned on but took ages to see the Apple logo. I waited for 15 minutes, and it still didn't completed. So, I backed off, and now the BIOS version is back to F7.

I didn't try version F10 though. If it works, then I can upgrade CPU to i9-9900K, i7-9700K or i5-9600K. But, no, not until I see somebody succeeds.

Anyway, it was easy to install macOS Mojave. However, Mojave is not much supportive of my old applications and tools (upgrading costs is a lot more than using High Sierra-technically free). So, I'll downgrade macOS to High Sierra. (Apple still supports High Sierra, yet, and all of the applications support High Sierra perfectly.)

Benchmarks

After overclocking, the multi-core score is just below the MacBook Pro 15", mid 2018. (MacBook Pro 15"'s score is 21229.)

I have the same board as you and ran into problems with BIOS F12c. I also and downgraded to F11, and it works flawlessly. I chose F11 because I wanted to have future compatibility to install a Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card, which is compatible only forward from F11.

Good to know. So, it's safe to upgrade BIOS to F11 then. Have you overclocked?

@dyne Yes I did. F11 is very stable, but F12c is not. I did overclock, but couldn't get past 4.9 GHz @ 1.31V. Any higher voltage or increasing LLC causes the temperatures to skyrocket. I probably will get better results if I delidded but since my machine is mostly for video editing, I decided not to push it any further.

By the way, have you managed to get USB 3.1/USB c ports working. EVERYTHING else works perfectly except for the USB-C ports for me.

No, I don't have such device with USB-c, only have old devices. LOL! That's why I downgraded macOS to High Sierra.

Yours is not working which means mine neither, I guess. When I get a device, then I'll let you know it works or not.
