Just a PSA here on an "old" (three years) board: I did a full clean upgrade from my old Mavericks (!) build last weekend on a new SSD. Pretty straightforward, used the standard BIOS settings as seen here:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...-bk-i7-4790k-16gb-ram-gtx-970-10-11-1.180737/

Installation was smooth after deleting the nv_disable=1 boot arg, only "hiccups" were due to me thrashing around to locate the full 10.13 installer package and not having read enough to be ready for the reboot and "18 minutes remaining" section of the install.

Standard MultiBeast settings for an UEFI board, plus Realtec ALC1150 for audio and Intel E1000e for network. I also added the 7/8/9 USB driver. Everything worked the first time with the exception of a few USB hiccups (keyboard/mouse not recognized at login after a cold boot, had to unplug and replug). Fixed those by installing RehabMan's FakePCIID and FakePCIID_SHCIMux kexts in the 10.13 (and 10.10, 10.11 and 10.12, just to be sure) CLOVER/kext folders. That even fixed access to my old Neat scanner, which hadn't worked for some time on my previous installation.

Usual caveats apply: check your BIOS settings and boot args, and don't use Migration Assistant for anything other than transferring Applications (and maybe even not then) if you don't want a lot of trouble.

One bad problem that resurfaced today: the Photos background recognition routine slamming my CPU to the point of causing overheat reboots. After some searching that was fixed by going to the bios and resetting the vCore voltage to 1.140, and it's been stable ever since:

Any other real problems were of my own creation, this was one of the easier update builds I've done since starting Hackintoshing back in the patch-your-own-kext days.

Nope, I didn't touch anything on the graphics side other than removing the nv_disable=1 flag. That said, I'm running a graphics card, not the onboard graphics chipset. Never even plugged into that in since I bought the board.

Regarding the install link you posted, removing the nv_disable=1 flag takes care of the install issue he noted, I was able to install with the graphics card in place, no problem (and I have the same card he does).

Appreciate the reply, Since the 980 requires web drivers I had to get the
  • NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext
  • Lilu
  • Shiku
and then follow the instructions to Problem 6 on https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solving-nvidia-driver-install-loading-problems.161256/#Problem6

Sorry to hijack your thread it just took me a very long time to get this running and i saw we had a similar config and was curious.

thanks!

Not at all, info like this is the whole point. Glad you got your install going.
