Installation

1) BIOS/UEFI:

* First Updated BIOS/UEFI to F11
1. To access UEFI Setup, press and hold Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up
2. Set to Optimized Defaults.
3. Set X.M.P. Memory Profile to Profile1
4. Set XHCI Mode to Auto not Smart Auto
5. Set XHCI Hand-off to Enabled
6. Set EHCI Hand-off to Enabled
7. Set VT-d to Disabled
8. Set Intel Processor Graphics to Enabled
9. Set SATA Mode Selection to AHCI
10. Save and exit.

Important note: Step 3 was what I did to install it and it worked. But after installing the MultiBeast settings, I could not start the system anymore until I have disabled X.M.P. It seems to be a known issue between i7 4790k Turbo Boost and X.M.P. Some people disable Turbo boost, some disable XMP. I guess it is up to you. See edits #1 and #2.

Installation Notes:

Before successfully being able to install, I have changed the memory allocation to onboard video card the max value. After a few tries I figured this was what was causing trouble to me and reverted to default value, which is 64Mb.

If you have trouble opening the installer, try using -x flag.

Install Mavericks normally as described in the installation tutorial.

After finishing installation, boot again with -x and use the following MultiBeast settings:

Quick Start > DSDT Free
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Without DSDT > ALC892
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Without DSDT > HDAEnabler
Drivers > Disk > 3rd Party SATA*

Drivers > System > AppleRTC Patch for CMOS Reset Bootloaders > Chimera v2.2.1*
Customize > Boot Options > Basic Boot Options*
Customize > Boot Options > Generate CPU States*
Customize > Boot Options > Hibernate Mode - Desktop*
Customize > Boot Options > Use KernelCache*
Customize > System Definitions > Mac Pro > Mac Pro 3,1*
* Provided by DSDT Free

After the reboot and fixing the XMP issue I mentioned, It was working nicely :)

Summary

- Ethernet, no issues with it.
- Bluetooth, worked OOB, but the range of IOGear was disappointing. Basically, at 30cm with nothing between the mouse and the dongle, mouse gets laggy. I had to use a USB extension to bring the adapter close to the mouse and keyboard.
- Power management works(clock goes up to 4.36Ghz when doing some tasks).
- Sleep works but after coming back from sleep, sound does not work. I am using https://github.com/cliffom/appleHDAReset/releases. See edit #3
- 1080p on HD4600 works great. I can even Play Dota 2 at moderately good quality and ~55fps.
- Memory is showing as 1333Mhz. Will take some time to see how to improve that without getting Kernel Panics.
- Webcam video and microphone worked OOB.

Geekbench Score: 13498
Single-Core Score: 3471

That's it. I hope that this is useful to someone ;). I am waiting to see better 4K offering and OS X support before deciding which graphics card to get. I also plan to do some over clock.

EDIT 1: Trying to manually increase the memory clock to 1866MHz or 1600MHz resulted in kernel panic during startup.
EDIT 2: Disabling Turbo Boost and enabling XMP, my new geekbench scores are: 3837 / 14445. It is slightly faster for my compiling tasks. However, the idle and full load temperatures increased a little. I got 86C when running Geekbench. I didn't get that high before. I ordered a new cpu cooler to replace the box cooler.
EDIT 3: Installing the ALC892 audio kext from Multibeast 6.1.0 fixed the issue with sound after sleep

Hi there. I'm running a similar system, but with a Z87N-Wifi board instead. I'm wondering if you could possibly inform me as to why I might be having problems with HD 4600 graphics. The system is recognizing it, but it's showing Graphics: Display 7 MB in my system information and 'No Kext Loaded', Could you share your boot.plist so I can see if it's possibly something that simple? It's my first build and these parts were supposed to be simple. Going on 5 days of pretty consistent work trying to get this fixed.

Thanks. All looks to match my own. I'm absolutely stumped. I don't know if my Graphics aren't being injected, my Unibeast USB has bad IntelHD drivers, my Azul Frame Buffer kext is screwed up, or what. 4 fresh installs and every time it lands on this problem.

Another question: Was your HD4600 graphics injected and working properly when you first booted up Mavericks (from the USB) after install? Mine certainly don't. It doesn't seem like the MultiBeast settings one would do after have anything to do with the IGFX. So if this is the case, it just tells me something isn't working right with the Unibeast install/bootloader. The only other possible source is my UEFI settings, but I've matched yours entirely, as well as trying out someone with my exact board and CPU (albeit with a graphics card, but I ignored UEFI settings pertaining to running it).

MartySMcFly88, did you follow this Guide when you installed Mavericks on your Z87N?

http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...ifi-using-hd4600-no-graphics-card-needed.html

Hi Stork. You suggested that guide to me in an earlier thread when I was having earlier, unreleated boot problems. I have a Z87N, yes, but will try those Z97N methods and see what happens. At this point, I'm willing to try anything, but will most likely be moving on to Clover bootloader if another install with UniBeast doesn't do the trick.

Another question: Was your HD4600 graphics injected and working properly when you first booted up Mavericks (from the USB) after install? Mine certainly don't.

Apparently, yes. It was 1080p without any flickering since first boost.

Thanks. Definitely helpful. Certainly means it's something unrelated to MultiBeast settings. Tell me, do you think my Wacom Cintiq tablet monitor, with a DVI connection could be causing problems with the install? I really have no idea if that's possible, but it's the only monitor I've used for installation. I have hooked the machine up to my HDTV afterward and had the same graphics issue, but I've always installed with the Cintiq plugged in.

Alright. So if people have successfully used the same version of Unibeast, Mavericks 10.9.5 installer, all the same kexts and proper boot.plist, and the same parts, and the monitor can't/shouldn't cause any problems, then it has to be a part. My memory is Crucial Ballistix Sport (low profile) 2x8GB dimms, which is suggested by the guides. Could it be a memory incompatibility, somehow? Or faulty memory. I can and probably should do a test. The system information identifies them properly and the UEFI shows the voltage, timings, and speeds to all be optimal and proper for the dimm specs.

This is like solving a murder where everybody has an airtight alibi!
