The Build

Sourced the motherboard from eBay. I pulled the Xeon chip from a machine I found while back. The E5410 is not the fastest chip but I was a bit curious, since I heard it could be used on a LG775 motherboard. Plus it's nice to recycle old neglected hardware.

First thing I did was to convert the LGA 775 motherboard to LGA771 by following this guide: LGA 771 to 775 Adapter (MOD) – Run faster Xeon CPUs in a Core 2 Quad motherboard

Installation

1. Make a USB installer on a Mac using UniBeast 6.2.0. with Legacy boot option. Follow tonymacx86's instructions.
2. Download and copy MultiBeast El Capitan 8.2.3 on USB.
3. Plug in your USB flash drive then set bios to:
  • Load Optimized Defaults
  • Standard CMOS Features: Disable floppy support
  • Advanced BIOS Features: Boot Priority to USB Flash drive, first, second and third boot device to [Hard Disk]
  • Integrated Peripherals: SATA AHCI Mode to [AHCI], SATA Native Mode to [Enabled]
  • Power Management Setup: HPET Mode to [64-bit mode]
4. Hit F12 and boot with USB HDD.
5. At the Clover Boot Screen scroll right to Options and hit Enter, then hit Enter under Boot Args add cpus=1 pciroot=1 tscsync npci=0x2000 and hit Enter, then Esc.
6. Scroll up and boot Mac OS X from USB.
7. Format your drive as El Capitan, OSX Extended (Journaled), GUID Partition Map, install OS X

Post_Installation

After reboot, press F12 and select the Bootable USB drive, then boot form your hard drive.
Once again follow step 5 above at Clover boot screen.
Now you should be in El Capitan. Copy MultiBeast from your USB to desktop.
Run MultiBeast, select:
  • Legacy boot loader
  • ALC885/889a
  • RealtekRTL8111 v2.1.0d1
  • inject NVIDIA
(Do not make any other changes!) Select Build, make sure the "Select Install Drive" is set to El Capitan and install. Quit MultiBeast when finished.
Download and run Clover Configurator Vibrant:
  • mount EFI by opening your SSD partition (mine was under disk0), EFI/CLOVER/config.plist.
  • select Boot, check npci=0x2000, insert under Custom Flags: pciroot=1
  • Save and exit.
Download VoodooTSCSync.kext and Text Edit VoodooTSCSync.kext/Contents/Info.plist, change value of IOCPUNumber to x. (x= CPU threads -1). In my case it was 3. Save and copy the Kext to EFI/Clover/kexts/10.11
Eject USB and reboot.

Summary

What works
  • Sound
  • Internet
  • Reboot
  • Shutdown
What Doesn't Work
  • Sleep (I set the computer to never sleep under energy saver)

Hey, you saved my day with this post!
I have a golden GA EP45 DS3 with a Core2Duo running Sierra and I upgraded it with a E5450 quad core Xeon with 771 to 775 sticker. The beast would not boot back into Sierra although BIOS was recognizing everything just fine, your instructions adding the right bootflags and adding the VoodooTSCsync.kext got me off the ground in no time!!!!
Thanks so much!
