Re: Current rig compatibilty

Well, I have a feeling some more tweaking is involved but at this point I'm more interested in no KP's and such...

Yikes, 39FPS?

Even a 5770 ($75 card) will beat that performance (~42FPS) on Lion

I thought the same.

Is there any way to make a Hackintosh without using a Mac?

Re: Current rig compatibilty

Missed a step on the install...48fps now. Trying to figure out if that is what to expect from the GTX 570. No KP's or anything strange so far. Only issue is that the display doesn't wake up from sleep. Going to try out the new beta DSDT for that.

Yes, follow the iBoot+Snow Leopard guide, then create a Unibeast stick from the App store once you have updated to 10.6.7 or later. Then you can install Lion.

Thank you! I was a little worried until I learned this. As I said I don't know anyone who owns a Mac. Would the 570 suffice until I install Lion? I'm going to have to order it online, so I wont be able to report success or anything for a few days. Thank you all for the help!

Still, the GTX570, by benchmarks, is MUCH faster than a 6870 in Windows, but a 6870 in OSX scores around 60FPS in Cinebench and can be had for $150 nowadays. A $300 card like the GTX570, I'd expect at least 80FPS on that benchmark. It's definitely not living up to the full potential of the card. If this machine is strictly an OSX machine, I'd say get an ATI card. Less hassle and obviously performs better.

Re: Current rig compatibilty

From what I can tell, I've actually got a better than average score compared to others in OS X. You are correct that it is not being fully utilized...I mainly bought it to experiment since I'm interested in CUDA for Adobe apps. I already have 2 6870s and they are definitely much more hassle free. It is really too bad that OS X can't implement crossfire given the cost of the 6870 these days.

The above results are with an i5 2500k @ 4.4ghz. I have another rig with an i7 2600k that I'm going to try out. Most of the gtx 570 scores I've seen are with an i7.

Oh...Happy Friday!

Re: Current rig compatibilty

One interesting note...The gtx 570 seems to only suffer in opengl, not opencl. I get fps numbers of about 450 in opencl oceanwave.

Do a google search for opencl oceanwave and you can check it out. For some reason, a link from insanelymac is not allowed here?

Re: Current rig compatibilty

Ok, so getting back to the OP's question, here is how I got the gtx 570 working:

1. Install OS X using unibeast method. Use command line npci=0x2000 during boot.
2. Run multibeast and choose all the basics. Don't load any of the nvidia kexts. Make sure and add the PCI Rood ID Fix.
3. Gather the following:

http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=1540

http://www.osx86.net/view/2074-gtx_5xx_enabler.html

4. Install the NVDAGF100Hal.kext and AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext using a kext utility like Kext Helper B7. Reboot.

5. From the 5xx Enabler package install Cuda and update it.

6. DELETE AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext from S/L/E.

7. Run the GTX Enabler. Make sure and follow all the instructions for org.chameleon.Boot.plist . It should already be setup ok but you might want to verify.

Done...Now test out Cinebench for opengl and opencl Oceanwave. Let me know what you get.

Cheers

PS - I pieced this together from two sources.

Take out the _ in the above link and it should work.

Re: Current rig compatibilty

Everything looks good so far. I orderned SL with one day shipping from Amazon and got it this morning. Installed; had some trouble with a boot0 error issue. Followed the directions on a link in another topic and got it working. Now working on installing Network and audio kext files (I think?). Thanks for all the help!
