My last hardware upgrade I planned according recommendations on Tonymacx86 site. I looked for perfect Z97 mini ATX main board with good price/performance ratio. Finally, I chose Asus Z97M-Plus, mainboard with new Z97 chipset, M.2 support and PCI slot for my old but superb sound card and full compatibility with OSX installation.
My workstation, which I use for editing pictures because I’m professional photographer. Primary I’m using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. In the future I would like to learn video editing.
Actually OS X is running on WD Blue 500GB hard drive but in the future I’ll switch Windows to HDD and OS X to SSD drive. But I’m wondering that OS X is quite fast on classic HDD.
I don’t use internal graphics. I have Eizo S2433W graphics monitor with Display Port input connected via DP to external ATI 5670 graphics card with passive cooling.
I prefer using my old Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCI sound card due to perfect sound quality.
Installation
- OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 according Installation Guide on tonymacx86 site with unibeast
- Latest MultiBeast installation
Issues during installation:
- OS X boot only from USB flash drive > SOLVED
- Boot0 error - Error 4k Hard Drive Fix > SOLVED
- EBIOS read error: Error 0x31 Block 0x0 Sectors 0 > SOLVED
- Slow network performance on internal Intel I218V ethernet (max. 5MB/s transfer) / NOT SOLVED
Future fixes
- Install NTFS support
Future hardware upgrade
- 256GB SSD for OS X
- wireless apple keyboard and magic mouse
18.9.2014 smoothly installed OS X 10.9.5 update without any issues
