What Core 2 Quad processor do you have?
Sierra supports only CPUs with SSE4 support.

Q6600 does not support SSE4.1.

Installing Sierra on this will be a pain.

I had the same problem while trying to boot! A "++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++" error when booting with -v option, or a freezed apple logo without it. Q6600 does not support Sierra. ElCapitan runs fine although!

As far i know, only Sierra requires Intel chips with the SSE4.1 instruction set.

This feature requirement will not going to stop you from installing EIC.

You can try EI Capitan.

i have Q6600

for a few dollars, on eBay you can find a core 2 duo cpu that implements sse4.1 and then you can run Sierra.

you can use a core 2 duo from the Wolfdale series or a quad from the Yorkfield series. both those series implement sse4.1.
