Thinking of updating to catalina - is it as simple as updating from the system preferences software update?
I recommend you wait until 10.15.3 comes out. Current version is buggy and UniBeast & MultiBeast will be current by then. I never update my production macOS until the 10.x.3 is released. ...unless you want to be an early adapter. :D

Thanks Stork. I'll wait then!

For those of you who are masochists and have updated to Catalina, you can see why I advocating not upgrading to a new macOS until the .3 update, especially Catalina.

Additionally, Catalina won't run 32bit apps. I always wait until at least the .3 update of macOS to make sure Apple gets the major bugs corrected.

BTW, get the GO64 freeware utility to identify all your 32bit applications so you can update them or get rid of them and find new ones that 64bit applications. See this article about more information on using GO54 and the 32bit application issue.

Finally, Mojave has mature UniBeast and MultiBeast. Use the tonymacx86 guide:

This is really good advice. I would add that early adopters that just can't wait a few months should make sure to have a bootable clone of their previous version of macOS ready in case everything goes pear shaped.

I could tolerate the bugs in Catalina but I'm still not upgrading any time soon. There are so many things taken away that I've used for over 10 years and many things added I'll probably never use. What is the benefit for me ? That's always how I look at upgrading. I never upgrade to simply be on the latest greatest version as soon as it's available.

I like the dedicated read-only System folder and strengthened Gatekeeper.

I guess I've been lucky. I haven't encountered any problems. The article didn't specify any bugs we should look for just philosophical reasons why iOS 13 and Catalina are buggy...

I've even managed to get everything running stably on OpenCore, so no complaints here.

Hello @pastrychef
As promised now that Catalina is no longer a beta and you apparently are using the system, here are some more specific questions that I hope will help us understand something better.
You say you have no problems so I suppose that you also work perfectly with the Sidecar function and that at the same time you can also make Safari work in sites with DRM? (Prime video, Netflix etc ...).
If so, could you share information on what SMBIOS configuration you are using and how you manage the iGPU or any alternatives?
Probably other questions will arise from this, but it is better to go step by step.
I thank you and greet you as well as all the others in this thread.

I don't have a Sidecar compatible iPad to test with...

Here's what I've read about Sidecar on hackintoshes:
  • To get Sidecar to work, we need to use a system definition of a Mac that does not have a T2 chip.
  • Those Macs that do not have T2 need IGPU for Sidecar to work.
  • Therefore, the best system definition to use for Sidecar is iMac19,x.

To have working DRM, I use iMacPro1,1 system definition. However, iMacPro (1) has T2 and (2) doesn't have IGPU, so it won't work with Sidecar.

What this means is that hackintosh users will have to choose whether they want Sidecar (iMac19,x) or DRM (iMacPro1,1) to work. I don't know of a way to get both to work simultaneously right now...

Hi! If I want to try a different system definition. Can I just switch only it or do I need to regenerate all SMBIOS info including serial, etc.?
