step by step how to extract a default dsdt?

I've looked around and can't seem to find instructions on how to do this. I need to update my board bios and upload the default DSDT so it can be edited. Would it be possible to get a step by step on how to go about doing this, (might make a nice sticky for this section of the forum as well).

Although if you got Windows installed, then you can use the Windows version to extract the DSDT, but not edit it unless it's XP. viewtopic.php?p=3814#p3814
