Steam self-updater causing Yosemite to freak out

Sorry if this is in the wrong category I wasn't quite sure where to post it. So, my Hackintosh has been totally stable for the past 3 of 4 weeks after i built it. However I recently was prompted to allow steam access to my computer so that it could self update. I gave it access and then another steam icon popped up in my dock. My curser became the rainbow swirly thing and continued to be unusable for about 10 minutes when I decided to manually turn it off, because the shut down button was not accessible. Since then I have tried updating and it still does the same thing. The same update was performed on my macbook air with no issues. Does anyone have a fix or a similar problem?

Try deleting the app and redownloading it from the website. It'll autoupdate again and it should work. I had a similar issue the other day and that fixed it.
