A VERY SPOOKY, intermittent "camera shutter" sound, is coming from the hardware inside my case.
The sound is almost identical to the one an iPhone would make when taking a picture.

It is not coming out of the audio hardware, nothing from the headphones and I have no other speakers in it attached to the system.
I have NO tricky stuff, webcams, etc. I use this system for 3D rendering etc.

Even scarier, it only seems to happen when I operate the system. If I go and stand by the tower, no sound.

If I close all apps, specifically browsers, it keeps happening.

I have run Sophos antivirus which did not find anything.

Needless to say this is totally freaking me out.

Has anyone ever heard of this, or have any idea what could be causing it?

Thanks... help!

Go inspect the case. Maybe a creepy stalker installed a hidden camera in it.

Funny story.

Did you try to look in your case and locate the sound?
That's the first thing I would do.
At least to know from where it comes.

I will try.. the keyboard, mouse, tablet are far from the Mac itself. So weird.

I didn't know the motherboard or any other component was capable of making and audio sound (other than mechanical, fans, etc)

Some motherboard can have a small speaker on it. But it usually makes only beeps. Not shutter sound. Or music.
