Sound Card do we need one.

Hi Guys my M/B supports the following on board sound,
Realtek ALC889 codec.
Hi Def.
2/4/7.1/7.1-channel.
Dolby home theatre support.
s/pdif out

Just wondering if I need a sound card or will this do! spec of machine bottom of this post thanks Ray:)

Just use your onboard. You'll be fine.

I am not sure what you plan to do with sound, but in most cases the onboard sound should be enough.

That said, I am using an old Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value in my system and have disabled the onboard sound since I don't like the sound coming from the onboard sound system.

I have since found one small advantage also : I don't need to reenable the audio after a Mac OSX Update. The sound is still there after I updated my Lion to 10.7.2 from 10.7, for example. What I have seen here is that the onboard audio is often disabled after a Mac OSX update and have to be reenabled by using MultiBeast. In some cases it seems also that users are having difficulties reenabling the audio.
