According to reviews around the web, Haswell chips run hotter than previous gen.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-4770k_12.html

The addition of internal voltage regulation in the new Haswell architecture is what makes them run hotter... Also it's not likely that Mac Pros will see Haswell for quite some time...

Interestingly enough only the one Haswell SKU has the upgraded Iris Pro 5200 graphics, and it only comes in a BGA form factor rather than a socketed chip... I'm guessing that since apple has been seriously pushing Intelsat internal graphics development that we will see a Core i7-4770R based MacBook Pro, or an updated Mini that uses that chip...

The interesting thing is that the 128 MB of L4 cache in the i7-4770R has actually allowed it to outrun 8 core Xeons on some benchmarks. Unfortunately this chip doesn't have TSX and new software which would widen the gap.

Which bring me to the new Mac Pro. Haswell with 128 MB of L4 cache would be fast enough to give a 12 core Ivy Bridge-E a run for its money. Especially if 12 core Ivy Bridge E chips do not clock that high.

Can get kind of close witha 6 core 3930k - a rig that cost 700 bucks ;) - and has 5 PCI-e Slots

100% Agree - Wish I had the time to tweak it that high / water cooling goodies ; )

Without water cooling I'm not willing to take the risk - 17 k is plenty good for me.

I could get a better pci-e SSD - say the Mercury Accelsior_E2 [http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/RAID] 820 MB/s [on par with the latest mac book airs] - and kick the GB score up - but I really don't need it. OCZ revo x2 PCI-E ssd is what I have been using last few years - it clocks about 600 MB/s and serves well for a hackintosh boot drive.

Could also get a better video card but for what I do its not 100% necessary.

This 6 core 3930k has been incredible right out of the box with stock cooling. For the price - this hackintosh is a phenomenal machine that I couldn't be happier with. It can render games, apps, audio - way faster than any machine I have ever used.

Just came across an interesting article in regards to the new mac pro specs:

full crossfire support would be epic...

they kind of have to. i mean.. if 4k gaming is around the corner.
