Hi,

this is my first Hackint0sh build.

Some background (you're welcome to skip):

I bought an MacBook Air 13" mid-2011 2 weeks ago and fell so much in love with the whole Mac OS X experience! I have been a looong windows power user running multiple debian servers, so I have quite a lot of linux/unix experience as well. The point is that I am devoted to go full blown Mac OS X where ever it is possible - starting with my primary workstation.

Software description:

I have followed the iBoot + MultiBeast guide found at http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html, which made me remove memory and secondary graphics card.

I then continued on to following the xMove + MultiBeast guide at http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/07/xmove-multibeast-install-os-x-107-lion.html

Therefore I am currently at Mac OS X 10.7.1.

Hardware description:

The hardware I am using for this can be seen here: http://www.prisjakt.nu/list.php?l=742689

I have two graphics cards. An
Sapphire Radeon HD5770 HDMI DisplayPort Dual-DVI 1GB
and an
Asus GeForce EN210 Silent/DI/1GD2(LP) 1GB

Problem description:

The problem was found when everything was set and done - allowing me to insert the rest of my RAM sticks (giving me 8 GB), and trying to get my four monitors working with the help of my secondary graphics card (nVidia GeForce 210).

They both work perfectly independantly, but the computer won't boot with a graphics card in the second PCIe slot. No matter if it's the ATI or nVidia card.

What happens is that I get to the gray screen with the Apple apple, but the spinning gears never show up. To computer just sits there...

Troubleshooting actions:

So, what I did was that I engaged the -v boot flag to verbose what's going on in the terminal.

It loads a lot of items but then get's stuck at this screen and never goes anywhere beyond.

Also, whenever the nVidia card is in I also get this message flashed for .1 second right before the "tomato screen" shows up. I do not think this is related since the ATI card also won't boot the system when it is located in the 2: nd PCIe slot.

I have enabled the NVEnable.kexts, which I can see being loaded when attempting boot in verbose (-v) mode.

I have tried PCIRootUID=0, 1 and 2 in an attempt to see if that would allow boot with the graphics card in the secondary PCIe slot. I installed MultiBeasts PCIRootUID fix, which should lock it to 1.

GraphicsEnabler=Yes/yes and No/no renders the same result - freeze.

-f and/or -x flag gives the same hang as well.

Summerize:
System won't boot up with a graphics card in the secondary PCIe slot, no matter what make or brand (ATI or nVidia).

They both work independently when placed in first PCIe slot.

If I leave first PCIe slot empty and put either graphics card in the secondary slot it will not boot.

It always results in the same freeze as shown in the picture.

If you got this far - Thank you for your time :D

Many thanks,

Re: No boot when graphics card in second PCIE slot

Okay, so now I've done some more testing.

I've tried a
nVidia Quadro NVS 450,
and an
Asus ATI Radeon X1900XT-X 512 MB.

The ATI Radeon X1900XT-X causes the computer to crash 2 seconds in after typing -v.
The screen get's filled by weird colors with screen tearing (the monitors are not connected to this graphics card yet. Even so - weird colors and screen tearing).

With the nVidia Quadro NVS 450, I get the same error as before as with the GeForce 210. Stuck at the screen I uploaded to imageshack.

Please advice on how to proceed,
I'm at a total loss here!

Regards,
Lockzi

Re: No boot when graphics card in second PCIE slot

Allright, so apparently I burned my motherboard in some way while switching graphics cards (I had two before starting this whole mackintosh journey) in and out.

Mac OS X would not let me install with both.
Two graphic cards were not working in Win7 as well which is how I figured it out.

First time ever something like this has happened to me after building computers for 10 years.

Topic solved!
