if you are using AppleALC for audio, then that should be installed to /Library/Extensions

(infact all your addon kexts should be installed there as currently they are in /System/Library/Extensions which is not correct for High Sierra)

Thanks for the advice. I uninstalled them through terminal and re-installed them with kextbeast.

fantastic!! that did the trick.

notice I edited my reply a few messages above about success with audio.

Let me know if your audio is working crystal clear through your headphones. There is a fix for that.

no audio thru headphones except some scratching sounds when I move the cursor. what is the fix?

Look at post #7: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/solved-weird-issue-with-headphone-jack-alc-235.234199/
CodecCommander needs to be installed first: https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/os-x-eapd-codec-commander/downloads/

One issue I'm facing is once you plug in headphones, no sound comes out when unplugging them. A reboot is required.
I prob won't work on this right now. I don't use headphones with this machine.

now, what about backlight/screen brightness/display preference pane? have you tackled that yet?

No, not yet. Probably going to take a look into those tomorrow.

Trackpad: this thread: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/voodooi2c-help-and-support.243378/
has instructions for I2C support. it says it is likely to require DSDT patching and GPIO pin configuration. I took a chance at
just loading the I2C kexts required and the trackpad, including the Trackpad prefs pane, works fine.

assuming you have the same trackpad as I do (pci 8086:9D60), from the kext folder download linked from the above link, you install the VoodooI2C and VoodooI2CHID kexts.

a few days ago I discovered that this laptop has a touch screen. interestingly, after loading the 2 I2C kexts, touching the screen causes a KP. not an issue since I didn't plan on touch screen functionality when I bought it. however, later I'll do some more fiddling to see if touch screen will work.

My version of the 5570 doesn't have a touch screen, but I did try those kexts anyway. They didn't work for the laptop, back to the drawing board with this. By the way, where did you order your BT/Wifi combo card from?

DVMT-prealloc 32mb patch was enabled again, I can only boot if the invalid ig-platform-id is changed to 0x12345678. If not, it boots to the black screen with graphical glitches and spinning wheel. Also including two links to my Google Drive, its the only way I could take a video of the booting with vebrose enabled.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7370 and have the same rebooting problem, although my version has a touch screen, which might cause some difference.

Did you solve this with the normal steps? By which I mean enable the DVMT-prealloc 32mb patch, use valid platform id, and rebuild kextcache.
