I just installed Snow Leopard (typing from it actually). I managed to do so following the guide posted on the site. However, this is what I had to do

- I installed OSX using my 5870
- After reboot iBoot won't boot into the OS (it just stays at the apple logo boot screen)
- I had to switch my 5870 with my old 8800GTS (this did the trick)
- I managed to log into OSX and set it up.
- I installed the EasyDST and installed the nVidia drivers to get full resolution on my 8800GTS

Now I want to be able to get my 5870 working on the system. So I did the following:

- Open MB and selected Chamaleon ATI Bootloader
- Selected System Utilities
- Boot Options I chose the 32-bit Apple Boot Screen
- I shutdown the computer to swap the cards.
- OSX can't boot up it hangs at the Apple Loading screen

What should I try next? I would really love to get this working.

Thanks folks.

In a similar predicament. trying to swap my 8800GT to my HD4870.
System will be up and running but no image on my monitor, I can adjust volume and do a shutdown.

Noticed something in -v (Verbose) mode with the 4870 in there.
Near the FakeSMC loading up, It can not load the ~ATI4800 controller KEXT and/or the AppleIOGraphicsFamily KEXT either... not sure if this has anything to do with this problem. Anyone have ideas?

Solved!

I kept looking at MB and saw this: "NULLCPUPowerManagement"

I checked that and BAM I was able to boot with my beautiful ATI 5870 :)

I'm pretty pumped right now...

@MrShoot have you tried Dual DVI monitor setup with the HD5870? I can only get one monitor to work.

Not yet this is where I'm headed to eventually! I want to make sure I am using full 3D and all. I was running SC2 yesterday and it was fine but not quite as smooth as I wanted it to be.

I'm gonna have to look into the 64 bit graphics
