I have just built a system that I got for Christmas.

Hardware is as follows:

Intel i9-9900K
Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming Motherboard
32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR 4 Ram
500GB EVO 970 NVMe M.2
RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2
PCI-e BCM94360CD AC Dual Band WiFi Bluetooth

The system seem to be totally fine But when I runtime System update it tells that it will have to reboot. I select download and install and then it pops up a notification and starts a 60 second countdown with. restart and later button.

If I do nothing and let it count all the way down. It goes away and says Updates not installed. Same things happens when I click restart.

If I download the Combo update and run it and then I get to the point at which I need to reboot. I reboot and in clover I have some other boot options now that weren't there before.

"Boot macOS Install Prebooter from Preboot"

"Boot macOS Install from Macintosh"

Selecting either of these give the Grey background with the Installing on Macintosh HD screen with "About 27minutes remaining"

Then after about 15 seconds of the system reboots.

I have tried even removing the Airport card. and the AMD Vega and just using built intellect I get the same result.

Any insight would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance.

  • Your Post TITLE reads " Cannot update to 10.14.2 update fails..."
  • There is no mention of original macOS on the system.
    • Are we to assume you had originally installed 10.14.0 on the system not High Sierra or earlier version?

  • To get some well-informed real help, use your camera and take as clear pictures as possible to upload where you find on-screen things you don't understand or get confused. During any new install or upgrade install, two things that will help are:

  1. Verbose boot rather than Gui boot withApple logo that covers up issues.
  2. Taking photos of verbose boot screen and any unusual Gui Error screens displayed on the Monitor for analysis in full rather than relying on visual memory of what went across the screen fast. Uploading such screen shots as evidence is the best way to get 'informed help" rather than the 'best guess help"
Another thing that can help to reduce clutter with too many icons in Clover Boot Manager (CBM) screen creating confusion as to which to choose to boot as evidently happened in your case, you may edit /EFI/CLOVER/config.plist_Gui_"Hide Volumes" SECTION to hide "Preboot" [SEE uploaded image of config.plist viewed in Clover Configurator Global ]

I am on the same loop. It's install, and after rebooting, it seems nothing was installed.

I still don't know exactly what my issue was, but I went through and followed this guide that had an almost identical build to mine, and the problem resolved itself. Obviously it had something to do with my Clover setup, but I don't know what exactly.

I am having a similar issue trying to install the 10.14.3 Supplemental Update that was released a few days ago. How did you end up fixing your issue?

I'm on 10.14.3, but can't get the supplemental to work. I hope someone has some advice!
