I installed Sierra and booted to it just fine (well, after solving a thousand other problems). Then, I ran multibeast from within the OS, installed the drivers I wanted, and restarted. Since then, the machine won't boot. I was having a kernel panic, which I fixed by increasing the DVMT parameter. Now I avoid the kernel panic, but I still can't boot into Sierra (or onto my original thumb drive to try and reinstall the OS). I see the apple logo, but once it's 7/8 of the way loaded and the OS should show up, I just get a black screen.

I see guides telling me to run various patches, but I don't understand how when I can't get into the OS and I'm not sure which patches to trust for this issue.

In the clover config menu, under Graphics Injector, I've tried booting with InjectIntel turned on and off. FakeID is set to 0x00000000 and platform-id is set to 0x19120000.

Hardware:
Asus z170itx Pro Gaming
i7 6700k
Intel HD 530 Integrated Graphics
TridentZ 2x16gb

Boot your system in Verbose Mode and post a picture of your screen when it freezes/hangs.
At Clover Boot Screen press space bar and select Verbose (-v)

Thanks for the tip!
Okay - weird - I enabled Verbose mode and now it booted into OS just fine and super quickly... does that make sense?

Edit: my ethernet connection isn't working though - is this like a safe mode of sorts? Can I tell somehow whether or not key functions like graphics acceleration are disabled right now?

This is odd. It's booting now even when I disable Verbose. It's like launching in Verbose mode once changed something. But my ethernet still doesn't work (it worked yesterday before I ran multibeast).

Here are some screenshots of what happens in Verbose before I boot.

Edit: also, it just black screened randomly so something is clearly still wrong with the graphics.

Install the IntelMausiEthernet v2.2.1d1 driver from MultiBeast
MultiBeast > Drivers > Network > Intel > IntelMausiEthernet v2.2.1d1

If that doesn't work
  • Remove previously installed IntelMausiEthernet.kext from the /Library/Extensions folder
  • Download KextBeast 2.0.1 and RehabMan-IntelMausiEthernet-v2-2017-0321.zip
  • Place IntelMausiEthernet.kext from the RehabMan-IntelMausiEthernet-v2-2017-0321/Release folder on your desktop.
  • Run KextBeast installer
  • Select the destination folder: /Library/Extensions
  • Reboot

What version of macOS Sierra do you have?
See: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/macos-10-12-5-update.220866/#post-1504116

Thanks!!!
I'm running 10.12.4
Do you think running the 10.12.5 update will help me or will that just cause more problems?

Edit: the multibeast driver you recommended worked. thanks!

Thanks - my machine just restarted randomly and here's the apple error report:

Advise is to check your Clover version
See: Updated Clover Required for Kext Injection in macOS 10.12.4
Use Clover v2.4k r4045 from the above post, or Clover v2.4k r4063 from MultiBeast, or the most recent version from here.

Thanks BreBo - I installed r4077.

EDIT: I'm still getting a black screen whenever I unplug the monitor and plug it back in and whenever the machine puts the display to sleep and attempts to wake it. I'm aware that the sleep/wake thing is an issue with HD530 but I can't seem to find any legitimate fixes for it - are there any? Is the display unplug/replug issue related?

As far as I know there are currently no fixes for the sleep/wake issue, and the display unplug/replug issue is related.

I've checked your pics in post #4 again and you still need an IMEI patch
Question is which one; Rename HECI to IMEI, or MEI to IMEI - See post #37 and #38
You can check for yourself with IORegistryExplorer, or if you like me to do it you need to make a copy of your IOReg and attach it in a zip file. See: [Guide] How to Make a Copy of IOReg
