Hi everyone. I am looking at doing my very first build. I am wondering if these 2 motherboards will work.
Gigabyte GA-H81M-S2PV and MSI H81M-E34

The CPU that I have picked is the Intel core i3-4150

GA-H81M-S2PV would be the easy route, I gotta feeling the MSI would require a few tweaks like a bios update or maybe a patch install, a few MSI boards of mine required patches otherwise os 10 wouldn't even load the installer, go gigabyte, 100% compatible especially the one you listed in your post, processor is a great choice as well :)

Thank you. I was aiming for a as low as possible custom build with room to upgrade if needed and to get a feel for things.

No problem, if your unable to get audio working from trying one of the kexts for your board from MultiBeast, check out this USB 7.1 external portable sound card, it works right out the box and no drivers needed:
- UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Exter...626?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae42f91a2
- US http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-USB-2...152?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564be360f8

If your HDMI audio doesn't work either, here's a video on how to fix that issue too:

Your graphics card QE/CI might work out the box but here's another video on how to fix that problem just if it doesn't, you'll still be able to see the install and get to your OS 10 desktop while you attempt to enable QE/CI acceleration.

Good luck and if you need anymore help let me know here. :)

Thank you. I will save these. I might do a build post once I get all the parts or at least the motherboard and CPU and do a lay the board out on the desk till I get the other parts.

I have a Intel Core i3-4160 picked out for this build.

You would be much happier with an i3-43xx as you would then have supported Intel HD4600. A little more money but well worth the price.

Good modding,
neil

Thank you for your advice. I will keep that in mind when I go to the store to buy the parts. I mainly just want to get it up and running and mess around then upgrade the CPU down the road.

Question. Is where this thread is posted in the correct spot for a build in progress kind of thread? I don't want to have it in the wrong place because I want to either make a thread or turn this thread into a build thread.

Post it in Yosemite support until you finish it. Then use the forum template and post it in User Builds. Do a really good build post and it might be voted a Golden Build.
