Hello, everyone!
I'm new to the Hackintosh scene, but have always wanted to have one for home use so I thought I'd take this opportunity to scrape together my old parts and start on a Hackintosh!

The current specs are:
i7-920 @ 2.7Ghz
EVGA x58 Mobo
Gigabyte 6850
Mushkin 6gb RAM @ 1333MHz
160gb Seagate @ 7200RPM
Rosewill 500w PSU

I got into iBoot with no problem, I insert my Snow Leopard Install DVD, typed "GraphicsEnabler=No Boot Flag", and sit. After awhile I got past the white screen with the Apple logo and spinning wheel, I thought all was golden at that point, but I get to the grey screen with the :beachball:, sits there for about 5min, then shuts down instantly. I can't figure it out, and this is only the installation process! :banghead: I'm fairly positive this is not a power issue, seeing as this is a brand new unit.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Muhr...

We need more information and I suggest your fill out the system specs you have in your user profile.

Do this under Settings User Profile Edit Profile.
We need to know the System name of the motherboard as EVGA makes several.
We need to know the CPU.
We need to know the Graphics.
We need to know the Peripherals you have.

When these are filled in then they will post automatically for you.

Now some ideas... the ATI 6850/70 cards are very problematic for users to use for first time builds and installs. See if you can find something else.
Look here for some GFX cards
http://www.tonymacx86.com/wiki/index.php/Graphics_Card_Database
see if you can locate one of these used.
New cards will not work w olde versions of Snow Leo. But you can update after you get Mavericks installed.

Once you have the base OSX install done - You will need to download two files
one is the 10.6.8 combo update .....http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
the other is software update 1.0 for SL.....http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1512

Of course you need the retail version of SL - it's a white DVD w a picture of a snow cat on the face of it.
Anything else will not work.
Be advised that Apple shipped restore CD's w hardware that were / are Silver in color these will not work.

Remove non critical items from the machine or disconnect them; like extra HDD's

Below are some links that were important to me during my build:

You Tube Videos on Multibeast & iBoot & Best Practice.
His vid on Best Practice - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZl1Gv3J7bg
His vid on Basic Overview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIOJB3EVHaw
His vid on Bootloader flags http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDw3RhLWAjE

Best Startup Switch (Boot Flags) for initial install from iBoot w Apple DVD
-v -f acpi=off PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnabler=No

But first see what you can do w that video card.

6850 is not natively supported in 10.6.3 install DVD - not even sure if it got support in 10.6.7 or .8, but for right now, use GE=Yes or just -x -v boot flags.
