Who wants a hackintosh any way. Well I Do.
Why! (as my wife says). Well, because its there.

My first attempt has brought me to a couple of problems. some of which I have overcome. But at the moment I am stuck trying to upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (from install dvd) to 10.6.8. I am following instructions from tonymacx86 guide for iboot ivy bridge 1.1.0 + Multibeast snow leopard. On attempting to install Mac OS X 10.6.8 after downloading the combo upgrade. I get this message,

Mac OS X update cant be installed on this disc. This update requires Mac OS X version 10.6.7 or later.

I have considered starting from scratch but might get the same result. I hope with some help I can resolve this issue while at the same time learning. My ultimate aim being to get Mountain Lion. p.s. I am on a windows pc as Ethernet is not yet working on hackintosh. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, yes I am using the update you suggested. I down loaded it to a USB stick on a different computer as I have not got Ethernet working as it requires this update. Then mounted the dmg file on the desk top, opened multibeast then ran the combo update. The result being that it displayed message requires version Mac OS X 10.6.7. Thanks for the reply any further help would be appreciated

Then try downloading https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Install and reboot, then run the 10.6.8 combo.
Then you can forget about running MultiBeast as there is no support for the Z77 PCH in SL. You need Mountain Lion or later for running on Ivy Bridge hardware.

Hi, thank you I will do. I don't know why I didn't think of that my self. I suppose it's because all the indications were that I only needed the OS X SN 10.6.3 DVD. I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Once again, many thanks

Hi, you need a Snow Leopard compatible Atheros Ethernet kext
The spec for your motherboard says you have the following - Atheros GbE LAN chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

Hi, followed your suggestion and it worked. However I still have Ethernet to work on.
I appreciate you taking the time to help. Many thanks.
MultiBeast has Atheros kext

Hi. Does anyone know if I can do a new install on a Skylake system using the Snow Leopard disk?
I seem to be in a bind. I cannot download the Sierra operating system, because my iMac is too old, and since I had installed El Capitan, I am not able to download that application.

SL will not install on Sky Lake hardware. You need El Cap or Sierra for SkyLake.
