Slow Shutdown Time OS X 10.8.3

Some people have reported that this only works after you repair permissions.

Attached is a shell script that runs those commands.

  • Unzip it.
  • start terminal.
  • cd to where you downloaded it.
  • run it.
    • If required, it will prompt you for your password.

So far after 3 reboots, seems to work for me (2-3 seconds to shutdown and my HDD is quite slow SATA-II).

I know this thread is old but I wanted to post that this worked great for slow shut down in Mavericks 10.9.5 too.

  1. Opened ml-sh-fix.sh in text edit, copied entire contents
  2. opened Terminal, pasted it it in.
  3. Entered password when prompted
  4. waited while it ran permissions
  5. Copied remaining lines following Repair permissions in ml-sh-fix.sh
  6. Pasted the copied lines into terminal and BOOM
Shuts down in 3 seconds every time.
BTW: I first cleared the kernel cache with KextWizzard
