Slow shutdown/restart time 10.8.3

Hey everyone,

I've always had slow shutdowns since I first made my hackintosh this last August, but I'd like to now diagnose why. They typically take 30 seconds, which is annoying as my boot time is about 6 seconds. I think I've isolated the issue to a 20 second timeout on com.apple.launchd. Here is the specific output from Console's shutdown logging.

I've read here (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4339540?start=60&tstart=0) that changing the timeout length of a coreservice can fix this issue, but I'd like to find the root cause. Also that sounds very risky to me. Any ideas?

Another thing - I am seeing a lot of clutter in my console - for instance, this repeats all the time while my computer is on.

Sorry to triple post here but I feel this is an important problem to follow through with everything I find.

Okay, so I ran a verbose boot (which triggers a verbose shutdown when you choose to shutdown). The attached picture below is the output I get every time I shut down, and it is not contained in my console logs. Looks like a problem unmounting disks?





It seems like the computer is having trouble unmounting /home and /net, also issues with com.apple.securityd, com.apple.SystemStarter, and com.apple.diskarbitrationd, in addition to a couple of weird things: (lots of numbers and letters).anonymous.sleep, (lots of numbers and letters).anonymous.sh, (lots of numbers and letters).anonymous.pcscd.


Why is the system unable to stop all these strange background processes?

We are all seeing this bug in ML.
Even non-hackingtosh's have it and some are complaining too. But Apple is not listening.
It is even in Maverick !

It's not high priority for Apple to fix it as most "real Apple Mac OS users" do not shutdown their systems but simply sleep.

The workaround fix does seem to work without any adverse effects.
