I've noticed that their aren't a lot of micro-atx builds on tonymacx86 for skylake. Im looking for something reliable because I will be using it for school and editing videos ( I would like to get something that works well with FCPX because that is what I use for video editing).

This will be my third hackintosh build but I did the other two while I was living in China, so I didn't keep any of those components.
If anyone has any advice on this build, please let me know! I didnt chose the Gigabyte GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 because it seems like a lot of people have had troubles getting that motherboard to work well.

The only thing I don't like abut this motherboard is that it has two PCI slots instead of all PCI-e.

The only thing I don't like abut this motherboard is that it has two PCI slots instead of all PCI-e.

I was actually a little confused by the different PCI-e slots. I will have to do some more research to understand it better. I don't see it being a big problem in the future. I would have gone with a microATX if they had more than one PCIe slot but I need at least two because I have to have a wifi card.

What motherboard would you recommend instead?

The motherboard you chose has 2x PCI-e and 2x PCI. PCI is a much older standard that isn't used much anymore. For example, all modern video cards use the PCI-e standard.

I personally use an Asus Maximus VIII Gene. It has proven to be very compatible with hackintoshing and very reliable and stable. It has 3x PCI-e and zero PCI slots.

It's a little more than I would like to spend but I think I can fit it into my budget. I didn't actually realize that 2 of my PCI slots were the older ones. Thanks for the help!

My Z170mx gaming 5 works fine now it's setup, didn't seem harder than my z77 up5 th build.

I had went through a bunch of posts about using the GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 and it seemed that several people were having problems with making it stable.

How is your Radeon HD5770? Was it difficult to get it working with your system? I would prefer an AMD video card for FCPX.

mine is fine now, it took a while to get it sorted messing around with USB ports & such, plus using the NVMe as the boot drive caused the dreaded reboot on shutdown, but that's all fixed now.

getting the card to work was basic, just put it in and checked inject ATI. done. I was using an Nvidia card but it was crazy long and was hitting the PSU meaning I had to have it in the 8x PCI-e slot instead of the 16x, then the DVI port on one of my monitors crapped itself and the Radeon has DP & DVI so it made sense to switch.

Does anyone know if I should wait on a graphics card until more updates have been released for Sierra? I wouldn't mind getting something newer that will work OOB with Sierra.
